Breeding & Genetics Guide
The core progression system. Build a stable that can survive any biome.
Save 1,000+ Coins
You need 3 horses minimum: 1 to ride + 1 stallion + 1 mare
β
Select Parents
Pick stallion & mare at the breeding station. Pay 20 coin fee.
β
Wait 1 Day
Gestation takes 1 in-game day. Sleep to skip time.
β
Foal Arrives
Check left gate of breeding station. Matures in ~3 days.
𧬠How Genetics Work
- Foals inherit one allele per gene from each parent; UI shows alleles you can nudge (blessings/cherries)
- Traits pass from parents β stacking two negatives is risky
- Coat colors use 8 real-world-style genes β see table below
- Stats blend parent values + RNG β specialize foals after they mature
- Breed for route roles, not one horse for every biome
π― Breeding Strategy
- Keep a diverse stable β specialist horses per biome beat one "superstar"
- Review both parents' trait cards β shared positive traits raise inheritance odds
- Never pair two anxiety/reactive negatives (e.g. Wind Spooked + Lazy)
- Trader stock rotates every few in-game days β save ~1,000 coins and wait for good stallion/mare
- Foals inherit stats from parents + randomness β train for the role you need after they mature (~3 days)
β οΈ You CANNOT tame wild horses in Early Access. Buy or breed only.
π§ͺ Coat Genetics (8 Genes)
Realistic color genetics β uppercase alleles usually express the trait. Breeding UI shows which alleles you can influence (blessings/cherries).
| Gene | Effect (simplified) |
|---|---|
| Extension (E) | Black vs red base |
| Agouti (A) | Black distribution / bay patterns |
| Dun (D) | Primitive markings, dorsal stripe |
| Champagne (Ch) | Dilution, pink skin tones |
| Cream (Cr) | Strong dilution toward cream/white |
| Leopard (Lp) | Appaloosa-style spotting |
| Gray (G) | Grays out over time; foals may darken with age |
| Tobiano (To) | White patches / pinto patterns |
- Forbidden: parent Γ offspring, siblings
- Allowed: grandparent Γ grandchild (common min-max strategy)
- Socks/face markings may follow parents but aren't fully documented in UI yet
π Stable & Economy
- Sell older horses to the trader when foals replace them β prices now scale better with training (postβDaybreak patch)
- Early breeding loop: ~20 coins per mating; unwanted foals can sell for ~200 coins at low rank β useful for learning genetics cheaply
- EA pain point: trader buyback can cap around 500 coins; you cannot delete horses β plan roster size before spam-breeding
- Raise Yam rank via deliveries to unlock better trader breeds and gear
β οΈ No manual saves in EA β autosave on camp & dismount. Breed/sell before your stable fills with horses you can't offload.
Training before breeding? The game does not clearly state whether trained parent stats boost foal baselines. In EA, breed for traits and bloodlines first; train the foal for the route role after maturity. Re-check after major patches.
