The most common problems players encounter — and their solutions.
Care actions (brushing, hoof cleaning) have a progress bar you must complete. Clicking and walking away does nothing. Hold the action until the bar fills completely. Also make sure your horse is fed, watered, and has no injuries or poison.
Ride your horse directly into any shallow river or puddle while mounted. The horse will automatically lower its head and drink. No menu or dismount needed. This is the fastest way to hydrate.
That's a quest item. You cannot drop, delete, or stash quest items. You must deliver them to the quest destination to clear them from your inventory. Plan your route before picking up heavy quest items.
Use Ctrl/Shift or the mouse wheel to cycle between gaits. Hold Shift to gallop. Press X for a quick stop.
Not in the current Early Access build. Wild horses exist in the world but cannot be tamed or interacted with. The developers have confirmed taming is planned for a future update. For now, buy or breed all your horses.
It's located in the main village next to your tent. It unlocks after you complete the tutorial quest chain. Stop hoarding crafting materials in your saddlebags — use the chest!
Go to Options → Controls → Active Item Collection and disable both settings. This removes the slow-motion camera shift that triggers every time you grab an item while mounted.
Increase your Yam rank by completing deliveries. Each rank tier unlocks new gear that becomes essential for longer and more dangerous routes. See the Yam unlock table.
Often terrain refusal: horses won't charge off cliffs. Plan jumps, or dismount, walk past the obstacle, then whistle with Q. If mood is zero or a debuff is active, fix care first (see Beginner checklist). Rare EA bugs can lock gaits — try reloading the last checkpoint (autosaves are frequent).
Loose horse AI is a top EA complaint: horses on slopes may climb and injure themselves; drink commands in deep water can drown them. Tie up risky areas: flat ground, whistle before you wander far, camp to save first. See Dismount Safety.
Known EA bug: kits can duplicate after dialogue/rest and don't stack, crushing saddlebag weight. Workarounds: load an earlier checkpoint, deliver/store excess in your chest when possible, report with F1 in-game or Discord. Avoid picking up more until patched.
Report via F1 with exact steps. Many players fix soft-locks by loading the last checkpoint (the game saves often). For tie-post quests, reposition the horse, dismount/remount, or reload — if it persists, it's a blocker bug on that build.
Community-reported EA limit: the trader's buyback cap (~500 coins) and no delete option can trap excess foals. Sell trained horses when the trader pays, stop breeding until roster clears, and keep only role specialists. See Stable & Economy.
No manual save in Early Access. Autosave triggers when you make camp at campsites and when you dismount (not everywhere instantly). Before risky gathering or breeding sprees, camp or dismount near safety so you don't lose 30+ minutes.
UE5 weather is heavy in EA — storms are a common FPS drop. Lower graphics, close background apps, install on SSD, update GPU drivers. During stutters your horse can take damage with little feedback — avoid hard travel in peak storms until optimized.
The game does not clearly document whether trained parent stats raise foal baselines. Community focus: breed for traits + genetics + biome role, then train the foal after ~3 in-game days maturity. Re-verify after major patches.
Not fully implemented yet. Developers plan to expand Relaxed Mode during Early Access (official Steam FAQ). For now, use route planning, tonics, and trait-aware breeding to reduce punishment.
