Beginner Survival Guide

Your first hour in Khiimori is the hardest. Here's how to survive it.

1 Your Horse Is NOT a Vehicle

  • Your horse is a living creature with moods, limits, and personality
  • Ignoring care = dead horse = failed delivery
  • Think Tamagotchi on steroids, not GTA horse
  • Mood at zero = horse refuses to gallop
⚠️ Most new players kill their horse within the first hour. Read on to avoid this.

2 Horse Care Basics

  • Feed hay and berries regularly
  • Water by riding into shallow water β€” horse drinks automatically
  • Brush & Hoof Clean β€” hold the action until the progress bar fills!
  • Treat injuries and poison immediately β€” they tank mood
⚠️ Clicking care actions and walking away does NOTHING. You must hold until the bar fills completely.

3 Choose Your First Horse

  • Ferghana β€” High Strength, best for heavy cargo (Recommended)
  • Akhal Teke β€” High Agility, best for fast light deliveries
  • Mongolian β€” Balanced stats, good all-rounder
  • You can sell your starter horse later β€” not a permanent choice

4 Cargo & Saddlebags

  • Balance left/right saddlebags β€” watch the arrow in UI
  • Unbalanced load = faster exhaustion + higher fall risk
  • Don't pick up everything β€” weight adds up fast
  • Quest items cannot be dropped β€” plan before picking up
⚠️ If the Drop key is greyed out, it's a quest item. You MUST deliver it to clear inventory.

🧬 How Genetics Work

  • Foals inherit traits randomly from both parents
  • Breeding two anxious horses = nervous wreck foal
  • Color genetics are realistic β€” simplified but accurate
  • Stats are influenced by parent stats + some randomness
  • Breed strategically for biome specialization

🎯 Breeding Strategy

  • Keep a diverse stable β€” one horse can't do everything
  • High Strength mount for deep river crossings
  • High Endurance for long mountain passes
  • High Agility for flat plains & escaping predators
  • Check traits BEFORE breeding β€” avoid stacking negatives
⚠️ You CANNOT tame wild horses in Early Access. Buy or breed only.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common problems players encounter β€” and their solutions.

My horse's mood is stuck at zero and it won't gallop. Help! β–Ό

Care actions (brushing, hoof cleaning) have a progress bar you must complete. Clicking and walking away does nothing. Hold the action until the bar fills completely. Also make sure your horse is fed, watered, and has no injuries or poison.

How do I water my horse? β–Ό

Ride your horse directly into any shallow river or puddle while mounted. The horse will automatically lower its head and drink. No menu or dismount needed. This is the fastest way to hydrate.

I can't drop an item β€” the Drop key is greyed out! β–Ό

That's a quest item. You cannot drop, delete, or stash quest items. You must deliver them to the quest destination to clear them from your inventory. Plan your route before picking up heavy quest items.

How do I cycle gears / change speed? β–Ό

Use Ctrl/Shift or the mouse wheel to cycle between gaits. Hold Shift to gallop. Press X for a quick stop.

Can I tame wild horses? β–Ό

Not in the current Early Access build. Wild horses exist in the world but cannot be tamed or interacted with. The developers have confirmed taming is planned for a future update. For now, buy or breed all your horses.

Where is my storage chest? β–Ό

It's located in the main village next to your tent. It unlocks after you complete the tutorial quest chain. Stop hoarding crafting materials in your saddlebags β€” use the chest!

How do I fix the jarring camera effect when picking up items? β–Ό

Go to Options β†’ Controls β†’ Active Item Collection and disable both settings. This removes the slow-motion camera shift that triggers every time you grab an item while mounted.

How do I unlock better equipment? β–Ό

Increase your Yam rank by completing deliveries. Each rank tier unlocks new gear that becomes essential for longer and more dangerous routes.
